The birth of paragliding in the northwest

Some of you may know, I started the training for my P2 paragliding rating this last summer. With the winter on full-blow now though, they've shut down until next summer, so I've just been researching, reading, and watching videos to be more prepared for next season. I ran across this article yesterday, and it's an incredible history of paragliding in the northwest, put out by the Mountaineers organization (based in Seattle). I recognized nearly every peak they mentioned, and was surprised at how often the Wenatchee/Cashmere/Leavenworth/Chelan area was mentioned (Cashmere is where I'm taking lessons).
After reading the article, I looked up the name John Bouchard (mentioned many times in the article) and believe I have brought up the very video talked about in it.

Dawes Eddy

Last week I got to see a presentation at Gonzaga University by Dawes Eddy. This year, at the age of 66, he became the oldest American to summit Mt. Everest! The presentation was incredible, and really made a lasting impression on me...thanks Dawes! I have some serious studying to do, and will put a more detailed account of the presentation on my main page. But for now, check out his own web page here Dawes Eddy
I'm hoping to attempt a summit or two over Christmas break, and this really kicked my drive into gear...here's to hoping I'm in that good of shape when I'm his age!

GU Parents Night

Yesterday my buddy Sam came to town. We went to the Mountain Gear scratch and dent sale (or whatever they call it) and I got a pretty nice backpack for 75% off of retail...not to bad!
That night, our friend Kari from our high school rowing team called us up because she was having dinner at her place. Turns out it was actually because of Gonzaga's parant weekend, so there were a bunch of people there. It was actually pretty fun. Her family couldn't make it though, so Sam, his sister Katie, and I made T-shirts that said we were her family for the night. Sam beat me to the father, so I was the mother...sort of lost out on that one. After that we went to some alumni party, but didn't stay very long...was a good night...now if I could focus on my homework I won't be up all night again.

     Well, happy news is that my dad and sister visited me this weekend. Sad news is that we went over the Probe and decided it was going to be more work than was worth the cost. In the next couple of weeks I'm going to take what I need from it, and probably haul it off to the junk yard. I used to love going there, because there are so many junk cars to play with and part out, but my dad has always hated it...now I can see why. I'm really going to miss that car, and won't be going back to that junk yard again anytime soon.
     That being said, I'm going to buy the Toyota Camry I talked about. I sure hope it's as good of a car as the owner tells me it is...I'm taking a big risk by not having the opportunity to look at it first.

Possible Alternative

Well, mom hit me up with an option the other day. She has a coworker that owns a 91 Toyota Camry that wants to get rid of it for $800. Problem is it has about 160k miles on it....but it runs, and that's more than I can say for my Probe. I'm going to try and get the Probe running first, but if I have to add much more into it, it might not be worth it. I will already have to replace the windshield because it has a large crack across it (and spider in the center). That on top of the fact that after a $200 fuel pump it is still not working, makes the idea of a new (to me) car might be a better option. I'm waiting to see what the Probe will take to fix, and more details on the Camry, but if anyone has suggestions...lets hear'em. I've had that Probe for a long time now, and it was my first car, so I'm not really that excited to get rid of it.

Car trouble...any ideas?

I have had my 92 Ford Probe towed twice in the past month. A few weeks ago as I was turning into the entry gate at work, the car just died. Electrical seemed to work, but the engine just stopped working.
I checked the voltage in various parts of the car and found that it was probably the fuel pump that had gone out. So almost $200 later I came home with a new pump and after installing it the car was running!!!...wohooo.
Yesterday however...as I was driving to my mechanics of materials exam the car did the same thing again...only on the freeway this time. I was about two miles away from campus too, and had to run to make the exam (which I was late for anyway). Needless to say it was a rough day, but the car is now again in the apartment parking space...so I need to figure out what is going on...any help would be awesome!

Well...actually not my first one...I've had this blog for a long time now but I'm starting it over and combining it with my webpage. I'm doing this because it's just too much of a pain to update that webpage very often, and this will be easier to update.
I have some really exciting things to update on the webpage, just haven't had the time to update it, so check back soon!
